Forget the hype — AI isn’t about to replace Einstein or Copernicus anytime soon. That’s the blunt warning from Thomas Wolf, co-founder of Hugging Face, who says current AI models are fundamentally incapable of generating major scientific breakthroughs.

His statement flies in the face of glowing claims from AI leaders like OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who have suggested AI could revolutionize science on its own.


AI Can’t Break the Rules

Wolf explains the core issue: today’s AI models are designed to agree with the person prompting them.

“Current models often echo the user’s input,” Wolf said.

Wolf’s warning is simple:
